The weeklong meet-up in Richmond, Ford says, was the largest gathering of Model Ts since the company began cranking them out. By 1921, according to the automaker, the Model T accounted for almost 57 percent of worldwide automobile production. It was also the best-selling vehicle of all time until 1972, when the Volkswagen Beetle overtook it, according to Ford.

This was the first factory to build the Model T--Ford's Piquette Avenue Plant, which produced the cars from October 1908 to December 1909. In 1910, production moved to the expansive Highland Park Assembly Plant. The initial price of the Model-T was $850.(Read more)

It was 100 years ago--on October 1, 1908, to be exact--that Ford Motor built the very first of the iconic gasoline-powered automobiles to be sold.
